The Red Fortress towers over the medieval oriental old town Agra like a pinkish mirage. When visiting you can’t help getting caught up in the history and beauty, if you close your eyes you can almost imagine the times when it was built: When the palace was completed in 1648, silk roofs covered its halls and inner gold, silver and precious stones. Today, the former splendour is resembled only by the mighty structures.
Sha Jahan had his idea of his palace carved into marble: “If there is a paradise on earth, then it is here. ” The Friday Mosque, the largest castle of India, dominates a small rise above the Red Fortress. Religion is one of the elementary parts of Indian culture including Hindus, Muslims, Buddhists, Christians and many other religious communities. More than 80 per cent of Indians are Hindus. Their temples form not only religious but also social and cultural centres of their communities.
